Each side names the stars from its own mythological tradition, in the same way as the planet names (Selenne in the capital, Kethra on the frontier).

Briana asked for mythological names. Claude recommended splitting the traditions between the two sides. Briana replied: "Lets do that - Your recommendation works".

What the names carry (background for AI actors)#

Capital (Greek). In Greek myth, Theia (Titan goddess of light) and Hyperion (Titan of heavenly light) are the parents of Selene, the moon. In the capital's framing, the planet Selenne is the child of the two stars. The red giant is a distant, watching father.

Frontier (Norse). Sól is the sun goddess who drives her chariot across the sky, pursued by a wolf. Surtr is the fire giant who burns the world at Ragnarök. In the frontier's framing, the swelling red star is not a parent but what comes for everyone in the end.

As a result, how a character speaks about the red giant and the red nights reveals their side, just as the planet name does.

The two framings above are Claude's proposal of what the names suggest in each culture. Briana approved the names; the cultural readings are not yet canon.

Implication recorded, not yet confirmed#

Before approval, Claude noted that using Earth mythologies implies humans came from Earth long ago and still remember its gods. The approval of these names is consistent with that. Briana has not explicitly decided how humans came to be in Andromeda, so the question remains open.

Name check#

Hyperion is also the name of a planet in Dan Simmons' science-fiction novels. Briana was told about this before approving. The other names are mythological figures in common use. This is a creative naming approval, not a finding about trademark or commercial name availability.
