Notes and readings to confirm#
- The name. Briana wrote "Vardane Empire". The approved roster name is Vardane Imperium. This record assumes "Empire" was informal, so the name stays Vardane Imperium unless Briana says otherwise.
- Whose operations in the Cinderbelt? Claude's reading: the many operations are Vardane operations, continuing the sentence. They could also mean that the belt is simply crowded with many parties' operations. To confirm.
- "Occupies" suggests the moons were taken or are held against someone's claim. Who held or claims them before is open.
- Which of the 15 moons are occupied is open. Claude's proposed list of moons, with four large and eleven small, has not yet been approved.
Consequences for the Kethra Almanac (draft; to be revised)#
The almanac currently gives the Kronos stations to the Cinderbelt Coalition and the Vesper Orbital Compact. It also sends Kronos's fusion fuel (helium-3 and deuterium) to the Crown through Vesper. Under this decision:
The Vardane Imperium sits across the planet's fusion-fuel supply. Fusion supplies 44% of the Crown's electricity. The Imperium already controls Oreth's phosphate. Holding Kronos's moons would give it a second grip on the Crown's survival: food and power. This raises the stakes of the Corridor War and the Armistice of Saltline considerably.
The Cinderbelt becomes crowded and contested. The Coalition's yards, the Outer Lantern League's settlements and extensive Vardane operations all sit side by side. That fits the opening era of the saga, the colonial wars ("Crowns and Contested Worlds").
The almanac's summary of off-world humanity needs revising:
- the 0.4 million at Kronos, now under Vardane occupation;
- the Cinderbelt breakdown, now including a Vardane share.
These revisions wait until Briana confirms the readings above.
