She was answering the question in the 19 September afternoon report: "the real question is whether ember storms are only Eldvang's red-summer wildfires, or happen in the north too." Before this, the Introduction placed them only in "the Eldvang lowlands, in the red summers". Two almanacs placed them in the north as well:

• the Lesser Crowns almanac: "Ember storms come off the Girdle Sea in late summer";
• the Ilyr Sanctum almanac: "Aelos has fewer ember storms than Calathe".

What is now canon#

Ember storms occur in the north as well as in the Eldvang lowlands.

What changes#

What this does not settle#

Everything else about northern ember storms is a proposal. The Introduction now proposes:

• They come in the north's late summer, when the land is driest. In the south, the season is still the red summer.
• They strike the dry country of the northern continents, above all the drier stretches of the Stair coast and Calathe's interior. Aelos, oceanic and mild, has fewer.
• They are the same kind of fire as in the south, one that makes its own weather. In the north they usually start from the lightning of late-summer storms blowing in off the Girdle Sea. That is why northerners say they "come off the sea", as the Lesser Crowns almanac has it.
• The Eldvang lowlands remain the worst place for them.

Unchanged: Girdle storms is still the name for the Girdle Sea's tropical cyclones.

Files updated to match#

• The spine (Kethra Almanac/00): a new row in the canon table.
• The Introduction (Kethra Almanac/01): the ember-storm row of the severe-weather table, and the northern summer in the seasons table.
• The site: the question is removed from the home page's "Still open for Briana", and this record is published among the decision records.

No other file needed changing. The Lesser Crowns, Ilyr Sanctum, Southern Holds and Living Worlds almanacs already fit the decision. The Living Worlds almanac's first Wild Watch, in the high Corran, already keeps a fire line.
