Aletheia under the red light of Hyperion, with the moons above its terraces

Vector Shift / Kethra / AL 2314

A world lives
before it goes to war.

Walk from Aletheia's quay to Halden House. Take a covered market through an Ormsby winter. Follow a lamp hung in a Vesper window after ninety-six people died. Every map line reaches somebody's door.

Two names, one home

In the capital they call it Selenne. On the frontier it is Kethra. AL 2314 opens the colonial wars; their choices are already being made in palaces, workshops, moots, ports and ordinary households.

Sallow / the Meres

A place before every larger crown

Queen Nesta's kingdom is poor, and its meres have never been taken by an army. At Landfall Day, its queen sits first because House Meresby claimed descent from a captain of the first landing.

Ormsby / the northern winter

Who inherits the next answer?

Covered markets and heated streets hold back the cold. King Asger is unwell; Crown Princess Petra waits while the Seven debate whether to accept Crown garrisons.

A lamp in the window

Ninety-six died when a seal failed. Zara Mensah asked for a binding vote on dues. About eleven thousand households in the outer rings hung lamps in their windows and withheld payment.

A city is more than a symbol

Take a walk through Aletheia

The Patience Stair route rises from the quay past markets, the Exchange, the Royal Academy, the Hall of Voices and the Great Choir before it reaches the Crown Stair. The approved city plan estimates about two hours on foot to Halden House. A palace, a market and a choir are places people must actually get to.

The world underneath

The Almanac is still here.

Follow the people outward into their houses, laws, roads, industries, beliefs and histories. The chapters, city plans, figures and interactive maps remain the reference behind every story.
